LARRY PORTER TRIO
The Larry Porter Trio plays original compositions of exceptional
harmonic beauty with an openness that allows for a maximum of interplay.
These three musicians strive to exploit the essence of the triangle where
each point is connected to the others. Whether exploring sublime ballads
or dancing through sophisticated altered blues, the trio sustains a crystalline
tension, creates an entire spectrum of atmospheres, and pushes the boundaries
of traditional jazz form.

LARRY PORTER - piano
Born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1951, received his first piano lesson at age 6. He founded the group Children At Play with vibraphonist Tom van der Geld in Boston in 1971. Larry went to Germany in 1973 and played with Bobby Jones, Sal Nistico, Leszek Zadlo, Volker Kriegel, Kai Winding, Mel Lewis, Günter Lenz, and Head Heart and Hands. In 1976 he journeyed through Asia studying music in Afghanistan and India. From 1977-80 he lived in New York, worked as a pianist in the jazz scene, as a rebab and sarod player in the Indian music scene, and accompanied storyteller Laura Simms and dancers such as Merce Cunningham. Porter returned to Germany in 1981, worked with Bobby Stern, Frank St. Peter, Airto Moreira and Thad Jones, and formed a quartet with Allan Praskin, which recorded First Date in Spain and stayed together 11 years. From 1986-1994 he was very active playing with Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Archie Shepp, Benny Bailey, Heinz Sauer, Leo Wright, Don Menza, Al Cohn, Harvey Wainapel, Monty Waters, Conexiòn Latina, and singers Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Jay Clayton, Rachel Gould, and Jeanne Carroll, as well as recording two CDs for Enja. Back in New York in the late 90s, Larry recorded the highly acclaimed CD The Magical Rebab of Larry Porter. He moved to Berlin at the turn of the century.
JOHANNES FINK - bass
Born February 28, 1964 in Erlangen, Germany into a musical family; his father is a jazz pianist. Johannes began lessons in 1969 and over the years studied piano, drums, jazz guitar, cello, and double bass. Now a freelance musician in Berlin, he keeps busy with CD productions, recordings for radio and television, and live concerts in America, Asia and all over Europe. He has worked with Marc Ducret, Lee Konitz, François Théberge, Herb Robertson, Tim Berne, Ack van Rooyen, Marty Cook, Adam Pieronczyk, Aki Takase, Rudi Mahall, Allan Praskin, John Betsch, and many others.
OLIVER STEIDLE - drums
Born in Nürnberg in 1975. Oliver started learning drums in 1986 and eventually studied at the Nürnberg Music Conservatory. He was the winner of two German music competitions in 1998 and 1999 and played concerts and radio and television productions with Lutz Häffner, Johannes Fink, Thomas Fink, Rudi Mahall, John Schröder and Peter Weniger. He moved to Berlin in 2000 and is currently a member of Das Rosa Rauschen (Felix Wahnschaffe) and Der Rote Bereich (Frank Möbus and Rudi Mahall), which has recorded the CD Risky Business for ACT Records.

Diese drei Musiker sind bemüht, die Essenz des Dreiecks auszuschöpfen, wo jeder Punkt in Verbindung zu den anderen steht. LARRY PORTER - Klavier
1951 in Cleveland, Ohio geboren. Larry bekam mit 6 Jahren den ersten Klavierunterricht. Er gründete 1971 in Boston mit dem Vibraphonisten Tom van der Geld die Gruppe Children At Play. 1973 ging er nach München and spielte mit Bobby Jones, Sal Nistico, Leszek Zadlo, Volker Kriegel, Kai Winding, Mel Lewis, Günter Lenz und Head Heart and Hands. 1976 machte er eine einjährige Studienreise nach Afghanistan und Indien. Porter lebte 1977-80 in New York, arbeitete als Pianist in der Jazzszene, als Rebab- und Sarodspieler in der indischen Musikszene und begleitete Storyteller Laura Simms und Tänzer, u.a. Merce Cunningham. 1981 kehrte er nach München zurück, spielte mit Bobby Stern, Frank St. Peter, Airto Moreira und Thad Jones und gründete ein Quartett mit Allan Praskin, das First Date aufnahm und 11 Jahre zusammenblieb. 1986-1994 hatte Larry eine sehr rege Konzert- und Aufnahmetätigkeit, u.a. mit Chet Baker, Art Farmer, Archie Shepp, Benny Bailey, Heinz Sauer, Leo Wright, Don Menza, Al Cohn, Harvey Wainapel, Monty Waters, Conexiòn Latina und Vokalisten Sheila Jordan, Mark Murphy, Jay Clayton, Rachel Gould und Jeanne Carroll. In New York, Ende der 90er, nahm er die höchst anerkannte CD The Magical Rebab of Larry Porter auf. Seit der Jahrhundertwende lebt er in Berlin.

Am 28. Februar 1964 in Erlangen geboren. Johannes wuchs in einer musikalischen Familie auf; sein Vater ist Jazzpianist. Schon 1969 begann er mit Musikunterricht und studierte in den nächsten Jahren Klavier, Schlagzeug, Jazz-Gitarre, Cello und Kontrabass. Zur Zeit beschäftigt er sich mit CD-Produktionen, Aufnahmen für Rundfunk und Fernsehen, Live-Konzerten in Amerika, Asien und ganz Europa. Er spielte mit Marc Ducret, Lee Konitz, François Théberge, Herb Robertson, Tim Berne, Ack van Rooyen, Marty Cook, Adam Pieronczyk, Aki Takase, Rudi Mahall, Allan Praskin, John Betsch und vielen anderen.

1975 in Nürnberg geboren. Oliver fing 1986 mit Schlagzeugunterricht an und studierte später an der Musikhochschule Nürnberg. Er war Gewinner des Generationswettbewerbs 1998 und des JHK-Wettbewerbs 1999 und spielte Konzerte und diverse Rundfunk- und TV-Produktionen, u.a. mit Lutz Häffner, Johannes Fink, Thomas Fink, Rudi Mahall, John Schröder und Peter Weniger. 2000 ging er nach Berlin und wurde Mitglied bei Das Rosa Rauschen (Felix Wahnschaffe) und Der Rote Bereich (Frank Möbus and Rudi Mahall), der die CD Risky Business für ACT Records aufgenommen hat.
